Egypt prepares 20 new asset deals to boost private sector participation

This initiative is part of an IMF-backed economic reform program, aiming to raise around $7.2 billion from asset offerings, with at least 50 percent of future proceeds allocated to reducing public debt. The divestment pipeline, as of May 2026, includes nearly 20 additional transactions, with a greater reliance on initial public offerings to deepen Egypt's capital market and broaden investor participation in state-owned assets. Plans also involve awarding management and operating concessions for 11 airports, with one transaction already in preparation in partnership with the International Finance Corporation.

The next phase of the program will prioritize foreign direct investment through the sale of significant stakes in selected companies and assets, reducing dependence on land sales for financing. The IMF emphasized that faster divestment and deeper reforms of state-owned enterprises are crucial for strengthening the private sector's role and supporting sustainable economic growth.
