Gas leak and partial explosion on pipeline beneath Ismailia Canal brought under control
A gas leak and partial explosion on a natural gas pipeline under the Ismailia Canal in northern Egypt's Ismailia Governorate have been brought under immediate control, according to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. The incident occurred at kilometer 119 of the canal in Abu Suwir town, where the pipeline passes vertically beneath the canal and intersects with tunneling works for the Abu Suwir drain. As a precautionary measure, water intakes at several drinking water plants near the site were shut down. Authorities are collecting water samples and conducting laboratory tests to ensure water safety and quality before the plants resume operation. The ministry stated that intensive monitoring continues until all effects of the incident are addressed and the safety and quality of the canal's water system are fully assured. A technical examination is underway to determine the cause of the pipeline rupture, and all necessary measures are being taken to protect citizens and facilities.
