EFCC summons former Bayelsa governor Sylva over alleged $14.86 million fraud, public funds moved into crypto wallets

EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale urged Sylva to cooperate with the investigation. In other news, the EFCC disclosed that public funds were transferred from a local government account to a private company and then into cryptocurrency wallets. EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede stated the commission froze the account for 72 hours to trace the funds, noting that some public officials allegedly use young people as fronts for such transactions and that the EFCC can trace wallets linked to virtual asset platforms registered in Nigeria.

Additionally, a Federal High Court in Lagos has issued an interim injunction preventing the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority NMDPRA from shutting down or interfering with Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s operations. This order was issued after the refinery challenged an NMDPRA directive concerning the suspension of loading and truck-out of petroleum products. The court adjourned the case until September 9 for further hearing.
