INEC begins distribution of sensitive materials for Osun governorship election
The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC on Thursday night began distributing sensitive election materials to the 30 local government areas of Osun State for Saturday鈥檚 governorship election. The distribution, supervised by Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, was initially delayed due to a Federal High Court judgment that mandated INEC to include the Social Democratic Party SDP on the ballot. The SDP was subsequently added to the list of 14 political parties. As of 11:30 p.m., buses were departing the Central Bank of Nigeria premises in Osogbo with materials. Mr. Umar Mohammed, Senior Programme Manager for Kimpat Development Initiative, described the distribution as encouraging, noting that concerns about the court ruling affecting the election timetable were alleviated. He commended INEC鈥檚 deployment strategy, which prioritized distant and hard-to-reach local governments, but expressed worry that rainfall could disrupt the distribution process.
