Orange Digital Center Burkina trains 152 young people in phone repair and solar system installation
Orange Digital Center Burkina has trained 152 young people in phone repair and solar system installation and maintenance, aiming to equip them with practical skills for self-employment and job creation. The program provided starter kits to the top ten learners from each cohort to help them launch their businesses. Théodore Yaméogo, manager of Orange Digital Center's FabLab, stated that the initiative seeks to empower young people to become self-sufficient and create opportunities for others, acting as ambassadors for the program. Wendemie Ouédraogo, a beneficiary with a disability from the 2025 cohort, shared how the smartphone repair training addressed his need to adapt from repairing older feature phones to modern devices, enabling him to become self-employed. He advocated for greater inclusion of people with disabilities in such training. Aminata Compaoré, the youngest beneficiary from the 2026 cohort, who was already involved in solar equipment, gained new skills in phone repair. She highlighted the financial independence that mastering such a trade can offer and encouraged young women to pursue vocational training for financial autonomy. Orange Digital Center Burkina's free training and support for top learners underscore its commitment to developing digital and technical skills among young people, fostering self-employment and entrepreneurship in Burkina Faso.
