
Nigerian Army commander visits Sokoto community, pledges readiness to tackle terrorists
Major General Bemgba Koughna, the General Officer Commanding, 8 Division, Nigerian Army, visited Kebbe Local Government Area in Sokoto State to assess the security situation following renewed threats from the Lakurawa terrorist group. The visit, disclosed by Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army and Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, included an operational assessment of the Forward Operating Base, Kebbe, and surrounding communities after reports of an attack on Ungushi community. This comes amid heightened security concerns along the Sokoto-Kebbi border, with residents reportedly fleeing affected communities due to attacks and livestock rustling. Koughna met with community leaders and residents, assuring them that the Nigerian Army has adjusted its security architecture to prevent infiltration and protect vulnerable communities. He stated that troops are fully deployed, alert, and focused on protecting lives and property, and that measures have been taken to identify and contain emerging threats. Koughna emphasized that terrorist elements would not be allowed to establish safe havens in Kebbe and its environs, and urged residents not to panic, assuring them of the security forces' presence.
