Senegalese human rights commission supports families of supporters detained in Morocco

The National Human Rights Commission CNDH and lawyer Patrick Kabou have begun visiting the families of 18 Senegalese supporters detained in Morocco. This initiative aims to provide legal, moral, and informational support. The tour started on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, in Saint-Louis, with a visit to the family of Amar Diawara, one of the detained supporters. During the meeting, concerns were raised, including the health of Diawara's father. Discussions also covered the case's progress and reaffirmed the Senegalese authorities' commitment to consular protection and defending citizens' rights abroad. Lawyer Patrick Kabou praised the CNDH's involvement since the supporters' arrest, highlighting efforts to improve detention conditions and ensure fair trial principles. CNDH President Amsatou Sow Sidibé has also engaged in diplomatic efforts, including discussions with Amina Bouayach and the Moroccan Ambassador to the United Nations, who committed to relaying concerns to Moroccan authorities. This tour combines social support with institutional advocacy, aiming to protect Senegalese citizens abroad and uphold their fundamental rights.
