Waly Diouf Bodiang warns Bassirou Diomaye Faye over institutional crisis
Waly Diouf Bodiang of Pastef has criticized the government's referral of a bill on special credit regulations to the Constitutional Council, calling it a "blocking strategy" against parliamentary initiatives for transparency. He warned that any obstruction to reforms promised during the electoral campaign would backfire on those responsible. Bodiang stated that any blocking of a parliamentary initiative aimed at fulfilling campaign commitments would ultimately benefit Pastef. He views the institutional situation not merely as a legal dispute between the Executive and Parliament, but as a broader battle for public perception. Bodiang believes the public is observing a "cleverly organized and systematized blocking strategy" against proposals to enhance transparency. He sees the challenge to the bill as a political opportunity, asserting that "victory is not in the blocking but rather in popular perception." He suggested that institutional obstacles against Pastef could strengthen the party's legitimacy and provide campaign material for future elections, indicating that the current institutional crisis is a political mobilization ground for Pastef as much as a constitutional disagreement.
