Deputy Chief Justice Damaseb appointed to Tanzania election violence inquiry

This commission will investigate violence that occurred after Tanzania's 2025 general elections. Chief Justice Peter Shivute nominated Damaseb following a request from Tanzanian authorities for a serving or retired Namibian High Court judge. The Judicial Service Commission endorsed the nomination, citing Damaseb’s extensive judicial and administrative experience.

The commission was established by the Tanzanian government to investigate the root causes of the post-election violence. Damaseb, who is also the judge president of the High Court and an ex officio member of the Supreme Court, will have his judicial duties in Namibia continue uninterrupted during his service on this regional commission. The Judicial Service Commission expressed confidence that his participation will uphold the reputation of the Namibian judiciary and contribute meaningfully to the inquiry.
