Questions arise over the death of "L'Homme de Ziguinchor" in Gambia during anti-drug operation
The death of Kalidou Diallo, known as "L'Homme de Ziguinchor" on social media, in Gambia has sparked significant emotion in Senegal. Diallo died after falling from the second floor of a building during an anti-drug operation. Initial reports suggested a traffic accident, but a different account later emerged. According to the Gambian newspaper The Point, the incident occurred on the night of Saturday, August 15, 2026, in Kerr Sering, Kanifing municipality. Agents from the Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia DLEAG raided a residence based on intelligence about alleged drug trafficking activities. Two Senegalese nationals were in the apartment, and four packages of suspected "skunk" cannabis were reportedly found. During the intervention, one occupant, identified as Kalidou Diallo, allegedly attempted to flee via the balcony and fell from the second floor. He was transported to Kanifing General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. On social media, many are questioning the circumstances of his death, with some users accusing Gambian law enforcement of violence against Diallo before his fall. These accusations have led to calls for justice, but at this stage, no official evidence confirms police violence. The precise circumstances of Diallo's death remain unclear, with the DLEAG intervention, alleged cannabis discovery, attempted escape, and fatal fall forming the initial narrative, which does not address the subsequent accusations of police brutality.
