Clarion Chukwurah urges President Tinubu to arm vigilantes as interim security measure

Veteran Nollywood actress Clarion Chukwurah has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to implement immediate interim security measures, including arming vigilante groups, to combat rising insecurity while the proposed state police structure is being established. In an open letter shared on Instagram, Chukwurah commended the President for facilitating the creation of state police but noted that its full deployment, especially in rural areas, could take one to two years. She argued that insecurity and poverty hinder national development, attributing growing crime to mass unemployment, political pressures, and corruption. Chukwurah suggested channeling part of the National Security Emergency Intervention Fund to support community self-defense through armed vigilantes. She condemned the abduction of children, stating that kidnapping thrives because victims are often defenseless, and alleged complicity from some police officers. The actress also called for government support to enable schools to employ armed security personnel to protect students and staff.
