Thailand ends visa exemption for Moroccan travelers starting September 15
Moroccan travelers will be required to obtain a visa to enter Thailand starting September 15, 2026. The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Department of Consular Affairs announced on September 1, 2026, that Morocco is no longer among the countries eligible for visa exemption. Previously, Moroccan passport holders could enter Thailand without a visa for up to 60 days for tourism or short-term professional trips, a policy in effect since July 15, 2024. This exemption could also be extended for an additional 30 days. The new regulations will replace the 60-day exemption, which covered 93 countries and territories, with a 30-day exemption for a more limited number of nationalities. Morocco is not included in the new 30-day exemption list, nor in countries with bilateral exemption agreements, nor is it eligible for Visa on Arrival. Travelers must now apply for a visa corresponding to their purpose of stay before departure. The reform, approved by the Thai government on May 19, 2026, cites national security, tourism and economic interests, reciprocity, and the streamlining of exemption regimes as reasons for the change, alongside the development of Thailand's electronic visa system. Travelers who entered Thailand before September 15, 2026, will be allowed to stay until their previously granted duration expires. In 2024, 40,000 Moroccan tourists visited Thailand, with the Thai Ambassador to Morocco, Fabio Chinda, noting a continuous increase in Moroccan visitors in 2026.
