Canadian High Commission seeks stronger ties with MTN Nigeria

David Sproule, Chargé d’Affaires of the Canadian High Commission, conveyed this during a visit to MTN Nigeria's headquarters in Ikoyi, Lagos, where he met with the company's leadership. Sproule was accompanied by Trade Commissioner Delane Boakye and Trade Commissioner Assistant Nkemdirim Emovuon. MTN Nigeria's Chief Operations Officer, Ayham Moussa, welcomed the delegation, highlighting the company's evolution into a leading digital services provider over 25 years and its desire for meaningful partnerships.

The visit coincided with MTN Nigeria's 25th anniversary. Discussions focused on Canada's revitalized "Africa Strategy," which prioritizes commercial trade, foreign direct investment, and bilateral economic partnerships. Sproule also mentioned recent diplomatic developments, including a bilateral air services agreement and ongoing talks for a Foreign Investment Protection Agreement, reflecting Canada's interest in strengthening economic ties with Nigerian businesses.

MTN Nigeria's Chief Financial Officer, Modupe Kadri, noted the company's aim to expand partnerships beyond traditional markets to North America, Europe, and Asia. The discussions also covered workforce development and education, with potential collaborations between Canadian educational institutions and Nigerian companies.
