Samsung begins global rollout of One UI 8.5 with AI upgrades and UI changes
Samsung has initiated the global rollout of its One UI 8.5 software update, which introduces next-generation Galaxy AI capabilities, enhanced system customization, and a refined user interface. This update, based on Android 16, aims to improve photo-editing tools, revamp the Quick Panel, and integrate navigation and status bars more seamlessly. The rollout prioritizes flagship and recent foldable devices, with users of devices from the last three generations expected to receive the update throughout May and June. This includes the Galaxy S26, S25, S24, S23, and S22 series, as well as various Galaxy Z Fold, Z Flip, and Tab models. These premium devices will gain access to advanced studio-level photo assistance features, utilizing deep-learning generative AI for image alterations. Samsung is also extending the One UI 8.5 architecture to a wide range of mid-tier and budget A, M, and F-series smartphones, along with budget tablets and rugged XCover models. While some hardware-restricted Galaxy AI features may be scaled back on these more affordable devices, they will still benefit from the core visual overhaul, including updated three-dimensional visuals, improved lock screen personalization, and a customizable Quick Panel. However, a leaked roadmap from Samsung Hong Kong indicates that the Galaxy S21 series is not included in their regional eligibility, as these devices fall under an older four-year major OS upgrade guarantee, concluding their major feature updates with One UI 8
