FADOSAB launches blood drive to reduce maternal deaths in high-security challenge zones in Burkina Faso

In Burkina Faso, the Federation of Associations of Voluntary Blood Donors of Burkina FADOSAB has launched a blood collection campaign aimed at reducing maternal deaths in areas facing significant security challenges. Jean Bosco Zoundi, president of FADOSAB, stated that 62 out of 100 planned collections have already been completed, yielding 4,800 blood bags, with the goal of reaching their objective soon. He expressed gratitude to the Minister of Secondary Education for the department's support in blood collection efforts. Doumabo Ouadio, principal of LTN-ASL, emphasized that donating blood is giving life and teaching this to youth is a valuable lesson. He thanked FADOSAB, UNFPA, health authorities, and all partners for their contributions to the campaign's success. Yves Sassenrath, UNFPA Resident Representative in Burkina Faso, highlighted that no medicine or technology can replace the simple yet profoundly human and patriotic act of blood donation. He noted that each collected bag offers a chance of survival, potentially saving women experiencing postpartum hemorrhage, newborns in distress, accident victims with significant blood loss, or soldiers on the battlefield.
