Burkina Faso commemorates Thomas Sankara, minister calls for concrete action on his ideals
The 10th military tribute ceremony for Thomas Sankara and his twelve companions, held on the first Thursday of each month, was presided over by the Minister of Industry, Commerce, and Handicrafts, Serge Gnaniodem Poda. This ceremony was established by the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, to honor the memory of the father of the August 1983 revolution. Minister Poda emphasized that the event is an opportunity for Burkinabè citizens to renew their commitment to the ideals of patriotism, integrity, social justice, and sovereignty that Sankara embodied. He highlighted Sankara's humanism, his service to his people, and his fight against injustice and for women's emancipation. Poda also recalled Sankara's economic initiatives, such as promoting local consumption, establishing the first investment code, creating Faso Yaar markets, and founding the International Handicrafts Fair of Ouagadougou. He noted that Captain Ibrahim Traoré's Progressive Popular Revolution continues Sankara's vision through the current efforts to rebuild and reclaim national sovereignty. Poda urged attendees to translate their admiration for Sankara into concrete actions, ensuring his values guide their daily lives and institutions.
