This follows a meeting in April 2026 in Ouagadougou between Presidents Ibrahim Traoré and Évariste Ndayishimiye, which aimed to revitalize relations between the two nations. This session marks a new phase in consolidating bilateral ties, nearly three decades after a framework cooperation agreement was signed in December 1997. The session began on August 10 with a meeting of Burundian and Burkinabe experts.
The Burundian delegation is led by Marie-Ancilla Ntakaburimvo, Director General and Head of the Program for the Defense of Burundian Interests Abroad, while the Burkinabe delegation is led by Hermann Yirigouin Toe, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso.
