Atlas Lions: Gessime scores against Newcastle, Ouazane nets first Eredivisie goal
Young Moroccan talents Gessime Yassine and Abdellah Ouazane both scored in European matches on Sunday. Yassine, a 20-year-old Moroccan winger, scored for Strasbourg against Newcastle at James' Park. Entering the game in the 67th minute with Strasbourg trailing 1-0, Yassine equalized two minutes later with a right-footed shot after receiving a pass from Giovanni Reyna. He also converted his penalty in the shootout, which Strasbourg won 3-2 after a 1-1 draw in regular time. This performance concludes his pre-season strongly. Meanwhile, 17-year-old Abdellah Ouazane scored his first official goal for Ajax Amsterdam's first team in their 2-2 draw against Heerenveen in the Eredivisie. Ouazane found the net in the 33rd minute with a curled shot from outside the box. This goal comes shortly after his official debut with the senior team, having started in the first league match against PEC Zwolle. Ouazane, who was the U17 African champion and best player of the tournament in 2025, is now considered a promising candidate for a call-up to the Lions of Ouahbi.
