Botswana Railways transfers lucrative Botash contract to private firm

The 25-year arrangement involves Baaitse's Life Compass Botswana and its partners supplying and financing locomotives and rolling stock, in exchange for 70% of the profits from the operation. This deal follows a period of turbulence, including the cancellation of an earlier P25 million agreement between Baaitse's company and BR, which is still subject to settlement talks. According to Baaitse, the new agreement resulted from a Request for Proposals and a subsequent Invitation to Tender issued by BR earlier this year.
