Farmer Othusitse Tsamaise loses 20 cattle to Foot and Mouth Disease control measures in Leporung

Othusitse Tsamaise, a farmer in Leporung, a village in the Good Hope District, has lost 20 cattle due to Foot and Mouth Disease FMD control measures. His cattle were gunned down in his presence after being deemed potential carriers of FMD. Tsamaise states that these cattle were his sole source of income for himself, his family, and relatives, and he is now appealing for public assistance. Leporung is located in Zone 11, a large disease control zone along the border with South Africa, where several villagers have had their livestock killed for entering a red zone amidst the FMD outbreak.
