Bishop Kukah advocates education as key to combating insecurity and poverty in Nigeria

He urged all levels of government to prioritize investment in education over solely military responses to security challenges, stating that neglect of education fuels violence and instability in Nigeria. Bishop Kukah called on parents, religious leaders, and community members to ensure quality education access for all children, especially those affected by conflict and poverty. His remarks were made during the launch of a new education intervention program by the Jesuit Refugee Service Nigeria.

This project, titled "Enhancing Access to Safe, Inclusive and Integrated Quality Education Services for Crisis-Affected Children in Sokoto State, Northwest Nigeria," aims to expand educational opportunities for vulnerable children and strengthen teacher and school capacities. Mr. Temple Anuforo, Country Director of JRS Nigeria, noted the organization has already assisted over 65,000 people, with women comprising 60% of beneficiaries, and trained 483 teachers in crisis-affected communities. Bishop Kukah highlighted that both Islam and Christianity promote knowledge, making education a shared responsibility, and appealed for support for educational initiatives to help every child reach their potential.
