Berekum Chelsea footballer killed in armed robbery attack on team bus

The incident occurred on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at approximately 10:30 PM, along the Akyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso Road in Ghana's Ashanti Region. Six armed men, three of whom carried pump-action guns, targeted the bus carrying about 30 players and officials. The driver attempted to escape, causing the bus to veer into a bush.

During the attack, Frimpong was shot and later passed away at Bibiani Government Hospital. Another victim, George Owusu Afriyie, 52, was robbed of GH¢4,500. The Ghana Police Service has deployed additional personnel and crime scene experts to the area and is actively searching for the suspects, assuring the public that the perpetrators will be apprehended.
