Rangers engage suspected poachers in Outjo district shootout, one injured
Anti-poaching rangers exchanged gunfire with two suspected poachers on Saturday morning at a farm in the Outjo district, resulting in one suspect being injured. The incident occurred around 09h00 when two men, aged 30 and 45, allegedly entered farm Kifaru and were spotted by patrolling rangers. The suspects reportedly initiated fire, and the rangers returned fire, injuring the 30-year-old suspect. He was taken to a hospital in Outjo for medical treatment, while the 45-year-old suspect reportedly fled. Authorities recovered a hunting rifle, two live rounds, two spent cartridges, a knife, an axe, bread, and chips at the scene. A 35-year-old man, identified as the alleged getaway driver, was also arrested. He was found with a seven-seater vehicle parked along the D2761 road near the farm. The suspects face allegations of conspiring to hunt specially protected game and trespassing. A police investigation is ongoing.
