Bandits kill 28 in Sokoto community, Army GOC visits as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar calls for action

The attack occurred on Sunday evening amidst renewed security concerns in the area, with armed groups allegedly linked to the Lakurawa terrorist organisation. The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that at least 28 bodies were recovered. Residents reported that the attackers opened fire on civilians, including farmers, traders, and religious leaders, causing fear and displacement in the community.

Following the incident, Major General Bemgba Koughna, the General Officer Commanding, 8 Division, Nigerian Army, visited the Forward Operating Base, Kebbe, to assess the security situation and reassure residents. He met with community leaders and residents, stating that the Nigerian Army has adjusted its security architecture to prevent further infiltration and protect vulnerable communities. Koughna urged residents to collaborate with the military by sharing timely intelligence.

Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar expressed devastation over the killings, calling on the Federal Government to move beyond condolences and take decisive action to strengthen intelligence, secure vulnerable communities, and prosecute perpetrators. He emphasized that the government's primary responsibility is to protect citizens' lives and property.
