ASUU threatens strikes in Oyo, Kwara, and Enugu over pay deal implementation

The ASUU Ibadan Zone called on Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State to fully implement the agreement, including accrued arrears from January 2026, starting July 2026. Prof Biodun Olaniran, the Ibadan Zonal Coordinator, stated that members in Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, and Kwara State University are facing hardship. He warned that failure to act would lead to a comprehensive and indefinite strike, demanding that the next salaries reflect the Consequential Adjustment and Transport Allowance component and other benefits.

Similarly, the ASUU Nsukka Zone, led by Prof Christian Opata, threatened an indefinite strike at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology if the Enugu State Government does not implement the agreement and its arrears by the end of July. Opata dismissed claims of inadequate funding, citing substantial allocations received by Enugu State, and noted that ESUT is the only university in the Nsukka Zone yet to implement the agreement. He also mentioned that ESUT has not fully implemented aspects of the 2009 ASUU/Federal Government agreement, including the payment of Earned Academic Allowance, which has negatively impacted staff morale.
