AC Milan manager Ruben Amorim explains Samuel Chukwueze's new wing-back role
AC Milan manager Ruben Amorim has clarified his decision to deploy Samuel Chukwueze as a wing-back, a shift from the Nigerian's traditional attacking position. Amorim stated that the role prioritizes Chukwueze's work rate, spirit, and character over conventional defensive skills. The manager noted that while Chukwueze is not a typical defender, his mentality and ability to help control the ball make him suitable for Milan's three-four-two-one formation. Amorim emphasized that defending is about spirit and character, qualities he believes Chukwueze possesses and is improving upon. He also mentioned that the team aims to play more with the ball, believing that strong defense comes from ball control. Chukwueze, who recently returned to Milan after a loan at Fulham, is expected to continue in this wing-back role, with the club looking for him to contribute assists from the position.
