Nigerian states receive N435bn for security and infrastructure, Atiku's subsidy plan faces opposition
State governments in Nigeria received N435 billion through a special Federation Account Allocation Committee intervention for infrastructure and security between January and June 2026. This funding, distinct from conventional FAAC allocations, was recorded under a new intervention window for state infrastructure and security. Meanwhile, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar's proposal to restore petrol subsidy if elected president in 2027 has been opposed by the Presidency and the Organised Private Sector, and has divided organised labour. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission have also begun investigating the use of a N12 billion Federal Government intervention fund released to the Nigeria Football Federation for players' wages and bonuses. Additionally, the United Kingdom has advised its citizens against all travel to parts of 11 Nigerian states, including Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, and Gombe, citing security concerns. In a lighter note, Afrobeats star Davido had a playful exchange with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, claiming victory in a past event.
