
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke receives Green Leadership Award for renewable energy policies
Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, was honored with a Green Leadership Award for his administration's commitment to climate action, renewable energy, environmental sustainability, and fostering a green economy. The award was presented at the 1st International and 3rd National Women Green Summit and Exhibition 2026 WIGSE-26 in Lagos, organized by the Women in Renewable Energy Association WIRE-A. Professor Chinwe Obuaku-Igwe, the Director-General and Special Envoy on Climate Change and Renewable Energy, accepted the award on the Governor's behalf. The organizers recognized Osun's key policies, including the Osun State Climate Action Plan, Renewable Energy Policy, Circular Economy Action Plan, and Climate-Smart Investment Portfolio. Interventions such as a recycling hub, the IMOLE solar lantern initiative, and electric-motorbike initiatives for sustainable transportation were highlighted. Professor Obuaku-Igwe emphasized that Osun's climate action aims to improve livelihoods, create jobs, expand energy access, and build a resilient economy, stressing the importance of placing women and young people at the forefront of Africa's green transition. She also noted the need for access to finance, technology, skills, and supportive policies for women-led green enterprises. The state government expressed readiness to strengthen partnerships with investors and other stakeholders to scale climate-smart initiatives and create opportunities for women and youth.
