Andrea Johnson vacates Idac head post immediately

This decision follows a request from Johnson to waive her three-month notice period, a recommendation by Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mmamoloko Kubayi, and support from National Director of Public Prosecutions Adv Andy Mothibi. Ramaphosa thanked Johnson for her service. Johnson's request to leave came amidst her testimony to the Madlanga Commission, where she faced scrutiny over allegations of providing the suspended deputy head of Crime Intelligence, Major General Feroz Khan, with access to an assault and intimidation docket.

Retired Hawks colonel Kobus Roelofse testified that Khan appeared to have access to the complaint before his warning statement, describing the sharing of the docket as improper. Johnson invoked her constitutional right against self-incrimination when questioned about emailing Khan details from the investigation docket, acknowledging that the National Prosecuting Authority was considering prosecution in relation to these allegations. She also testified about limiting contact with Khan after media reports linked him to murders.

Her appearance before the commission had been delayed previously due to reported hospitalization, with the commission chairperson Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga dismissing her medical certificate as “useless”.
