Kojo Oppong Nkrumah challenges government on abandoned economic promises
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Ranking Member on Parliament鈥檚 Economy and Development Committee and MP for Ofoase/Ayirebi, has criticized the government for allegedly abandoning many of its economic program promises. Speaking on Citi Fm鈥檚 Eyewitness News, Oppong Nkrumah stated that the government appears to be focusing on a few select achievements while neglecting numerous other commitments made at the start of its administration. He argued that the government's performance should be measured against specific targets outlined in its 2025 and 2026 economic programs, rather than general claims of progress. Oppong Nkrumah cited examples in healthcare, where initial pledges for 600 CHPS compounds were later shifted to 35 Agenda 111 projects, and sports infrastructure, where promises to build seven stadia have not been fulfilled. He attributed this pattern of unfulfilled promises partly to the government's fiscal strategy, suggesting that insufficient revenue mobilization has limited its ability to pursue the full range of initially promised programs, forcing a concentration on a smaller number of initiatives. He emphasized that the debate on government performance should focus on budget allocations and measurable outcomes to objectively assess whether commitments to Ghanaians are being met.
