
Ousmane Sonko pays tribute to Cheikh Mouhamadou Macky Ibrahima Niass following his passing in Morocco
Cheikh Mouhamadou Macky Ibrahima Niass, son of El Hadji Ibrahima Niass and younger brother of the General Khalife of M茅dina Baye, Cheikh Mouhamadou Mahi Ibrahima Niass, passed away in Morocco on August 31, 2026, at the age of 83. He had been receiving treatment there for several months. His death has deeply affected the Baye Niass family and the entire Tijane community, where he was known for his piety, knowledge, and humility. Cheikh Mouhamadou Macky Ibrahima Niass, born in 1943 in M茅dina Baye, dedicated his life to teaching Islamic sciences and spreading the Fayda Tidjaniya. He memorized the Holy Quran, studied at Al-Azhar Islamic University, and was a professor of Arabic. Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko extended his condolences, highlighting the loss of a great scholar and praising his devotion to teaching the fundamentals of Islam. Tributes continue to pour in as the family prepares for his repatriation and funeral arrangements.
