Rory McIlroy questions LIV Golf stars' value amid PGA Tour return speculation
Rory McIlroy has questioned the value Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm brought to LIV Golf, as the rival tour faces challenges and speculation grows about its stars returning to the PGA Tour. LIV Golf recently canceled its season-ending team championship and is exploring a slimmed-down schedule for next year after losing its Saudi backers. McIlroy, a consistent critic of LIV, stated that the tour has "never been a good thing for the game." While some former LIV players like Brooks Koepka have returned to the PGA Tour, McIlroy believes it will be a "tough, tough road back" for others. World number one Scottie Scheffler offered a more diplomatic view, suggesting some LIV players could provide value to the PGA Tour. LIV officials, despite reports of unpaid players and vendors, remain optimistic about a "2.0" version under new investors, featuring a shorter season, smaller prize pots, and greater player equity. LIV CEO Scott O'Neil outlined plans for five marquee team championships across five continents and five signature events, primarily in the US. He confirmed a deadline for players to sign up for next season but did not provide details. McIlroy expressed skepticism about LIV's future, stating, "whatever 2.0 looks like, if it even happens."
