Senegal defeats Mali in AfroBasket U18 semi-final, qualifies for final and FIBA U19 World Cup
Senegal's U18 men's basketball team defeated defending champions Mali 55-51 in a hard-fought West African derby in Abidjan, securing their place in the AfroBasket U18 final. This victory also qualifies Senegal for the FIBA U19 World Cup 2027. The Senegalese team started strong, leading 23-13 in the first quarter and maintaining a 34-21 lead at halftime. They effectively neutralized Mali's Abdou Karim Diallo. Despite a late surge from Mali in the final quarter, Senegal held on to their lead. This win is particularly significant for Senegal, as it avenges their previous losses to Mali in the 2018 final and 2024 semi-final of the AfroBasket U18. Senegal will now face the winner of the other semi-final between host Ivory Coast and Cameroon. The final and third-place match will be held on Sunday, August 16, at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan.
