African feminists advocate for stronger political and economic action to advance women's rights

Discussions centered on improving financing, leadership, and social protection for women. Former first lady Monica Geingos emphasized the need for an "unromantic finance strategy" to tackle issues such as care work, debt, taxation, financial inclusion, social protection, healthcare, and pension reform. Geingos also advocated for increased use of domestic capital and innovative financing mechanisms, citing the success of blended vehicles like those developed by the One Economy Foundation, which supports youth through programs focusing on sexual and reproductive health, mental health, and youth empowerment.

The forum, which included feminist scholar Professor Amina Mama, author and chief executive of The Conversation Strategists Nozipho Tshabalala, and Greenpeace Mena adviser Khaoula Ksiksi, also addressed women's political leadership, economic structures, and preparing future generations to continue the work of pan-African feminism. Speakers reflected on the Maputo Protocol as a framework for women's rights. Ksiksi highlighted the importance of feminist movements retaining their humanity while pursuing social and political change.

The panel called for a pan-African feminist agenda that focuses on Africa while acknowledging its role in global conversations.
