President Mahama to swear in two ministers and three Supreme Court nominees on August 29
President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to swear in Mahama Ayariga as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology. Additionally, three newly approved Supreme Court nominees, Justice Sophia Rosetta Bernasko Essah, Justice Edward Amoako Asante, and private legal practitioner Anthony Forson Jnr, will be sworn in at a ceremony at Jubilee House on August 29, 2026, at 10:00 am. This follows Parliament's approval of the nominations on August 27. The two ministerial nominees were approved by a voice vote after the Appointments Committee's report on their vetting was adopted. The Supreme Court nominees' approval followed a contentious vetting process, during which the Minority Caucus, led by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, walked out of the Appointments Committee, objecting to the accelerated process. The Minority had argued against the accelerated vetting due to no immediate Supreme Court vacancy, but Appointments Committee Chairman Bernard Ahiafor rejected this objection.
