Atiku Abubakar addresses age concerns and opposition coalition ahead of 2027 presidential election
African Democratic Congress presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has addressed concerns regarding his age ahead of the 2027 presidential election, questioning critics about his appearance in an interview with BBC Hausa. Responding to whether his age would affect his leadership ability, Atiku referenced President Bola Tinubu's age and challenged the premise of the question. He also dismissed claims of being an obstacle to the opposition coalition, stating he initiated its formation. Atiku noted that while Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso had left the group, most other politicians remained, and he expressed optimism for future collaboration among opposition figures. Additionally, the former vice president criticized the Federal Government's handling of the petrol subsidy removal, questioning the whereabouts of the savings and promising to restore the subsidy and demand refunds from those who allegedly stole the funds if elected. He also defended his decision not to sign a peace accord, citing the exclusion of the incumbent government as a reason for his refusal.
