Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University female students protest insecurity after hostel robbery

The students marched to the university's Senate Building to express their fears for safety and demand improved campus security after suspected robbers invaded the female hostel early Sunday, stealing valuables including mobile phones. One victim, Fauziyya Abdullahi, stated that students were traumatized and feared a recurrence, emphasizing their desire to live their future and the inadequacy of current security. Another victim, Rejoice Duke, described attackers breaking into rooms around 2 a.m., demanding phones or threatening lives.

The university's Vice-Chancellor and management team visited the scene, with the Head of the Directorate of Information, Zailani Bappah, assuring students that measures would be taken to strengthen security surveillance. The Bauchi State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, confirmed an investigation had begun to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible, noting that about eight rooms were burgled and 20 mobile phones stolen, as part of efforts to sustain the Safe School Initiative.
