Abdourahmane Diouf alleges Ousmane Sonko approved debt restructuring while Prime Minister

In an interview with EvenProd, Diouf claimed that current Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko had given his agreement in principle for debt restructuring during his tenure as head of government. Diouf stated that this decision was made during a Council of Ministers meeting before Sonko's departure from the Prime Minister's office. He emphasized that Sonko's approval was given "before leaving" and "before quitting the government."

This statement comes amidst ongoing political and economic debates about debt restructuring. Diouf suggests it would be challenging to present this decision as solely an initiative of the current government. He highlighted that Sonko led the government for nearly two years and was directly involved in decisions addressing the country's financial difficulties.

Diouf stressed the importance of recalling the facts and decisions made when current critics were in power, stating, "I do not want to play this political game, but the truth must be re-established." The Minister also referred to a statement Sonko made on his last day as Prime Minister, May 22, 2023, at the National Assembly, where Sonko reportedly acknowledged that the deteriorating economic situation might force the state to review certain prices. Diouf quoted Sonko as saying, "If the situation continues like this, we will be forced to increase prices."

According to Diouf, the
